Good to know: The vintage dreamed of by any winemaker is the one in which there is equal quantity and quality of grapes and that is what Vinas del Cenit had in 2016 in the Land of Wine. Very slow maturation not suitable for the impatient, which allowed them to work with firm and very noble tannins, perfect for wines of beautiful evolution over time. At the same time they considered that it was the perfect year to produce a more fruity wine in which they could offer the protagonism to the most varietal expression of the tempranillo grape of their terroir.
Cenit is matured for 16 months in french oak (80% new oak). Cenit is composed of a selection of plots of land within the region whose soils consist of sand on the surface and at different depths. Cenit is a selection of prephylioxera vineyards with an age range between 120 to 150. Flavours of red fruit, aromatic herbs, thyme and rosemary, mixed with subtle notes of ageing. In mouth it is enveloping, powerful, tasty, with great volume, but with a very agile expression in mouth. Long and intense finish consumes the sensation of enjoying a great wine. Serious wine but at the same time "disfrutón".
Bodegas Viñas del Cénit has 32 temperature controlled stainless-steel open tub-type tanks tanks. The open tanks are ideal for fermenting the Tempranillo variety of the region, as they allow the musts to oxygenate perfectly during the alcoholic fermentation, and they favour the contact of the thick skins of the old grapes with the must.
In the millenary region of Tierra del Vino de Zamora, enriched by the pass of pilgrims through the Vía de la Plata for several years, Bodegas Viñas del Cenit acquires its meaning through some of the most unique centenary vineyards in Spain. The region in Zamora called Tierra de Vino has been engaged in the production of wine since the 11th century, according to the oldest text found. Historically, the area’s economy was fully based on the production of wine and eau de vie. This winemaking tradition and the love of the area’s population for vineyards has resulted in the preservation of vineyards with over 150 years of age, particularly in the area in which the bodega is located, in the village of Villanueva de Campeán.
Great wines are built here with a special balance between power and the area’s character thanks to these unique vineyards and the love professed by the people who take care of them throughout their entire cycle. These wines have a marvellous acidity that provide them with finesse, elegance and the capacity to live and evolve in the bottle for many years.
Cenit 2020 has aromas of red fruit, aromatic herbs like thyme and rosemary, and subtle oak notes lead into a bold yet graceful palate. Rich, flavorful, and full-bodied, it maintains an agile and vibrant expression. The long, intense finish completes the experience of a truly exceptional wine—serious in character, yet thoroughly enjoyable.
