Good To Know: Globally renowned for being one of the best wine producers in Spain, Vega Sicilia's wines are one of the most expensive and highly sought after Spanish wines in the world. The famed winery produces 3 highly collectable wines: Unico, the winery's premier and flagship wine, the Reserva Especial, a blend of the top tier vintages based on the current release which is aged up to 10 years and upwards prior to sale. Lastly, the Valbuena which is made from younger vines and aged up to 5 years before its release.

Vega Sicilia has been in operation since 1864. This was long before Ribera del Duero was developed into the premier appelation that it is today. The oldest vintages stored in their cellars go as far back to the 1st quarter of the 20th century, making Vega Sicilia one of the oldest wineries in the region. Both the winery's prestige and quality consistency vastly improved in the 1980's when the current owners, the Alvarez family, acquired the property in 1982. Apart from the flagship company, Vega Sicilia, the family also owns Bodegas Alion, famed for high quality Tempranillo based wines, Bodegas Pintia in Toro, and the Tokaji producer, Oremus, in Hungary. In addition to all these, Macan, a Rioja based wine producer, was founded in 2009 as a joint venture between Vega Sicilia and Baron Edmond de Rothschild.

Due to the abundant production of the Unico 2014, there was a need for stricter green pruning and crop thinning. Fortunately, in years like this when the weather is favorable, we tend to see a generous yield in terms of both quantity and quality. The grapes from our 40-hectare vineyard are reserved for Unico, undergoing a minimum aging period of 10 years in oak barrels and in bottle, one of the lengthiest in the world. During the initial stage, we utilize 225-liter French and American oak barrels to influence the wine's character, followed by 22,000-liter wooden vats in the second stage. This intricate process of wine production enhances the wine's complexity, introducing infinite nuances, precision, texture, and depth as it matures over time. Our unique terroir and extended aging process ensure that our wines become timeless as they evolve.

Vega Sicilia Único 2015 is an iconic Gran Reserva from Spain’s most legendary estate in Ribera del Duero, crafted from around 96% Tinto Fino and 4% Cabernet Sauvignon. Harvested early to retain freshness, it undergoes one of the world’s longest maturation processes, spending five years between oak barriques and large oak vats before further refinement in bottle. Deep garnet in color, it reveals a complex bouquet of dark cherries, cassis, pomegranate, forest floor, spice, cigar box, and graphite. The palate is medium to full-bodied, seamlessly balancing power and finesse with fine-grained tannins, vibrant acidity, and a long, mineral-driven finish. Approachable from the mid-2020s yet built to evolve for decades, Único 2015 represents the timeless elegance and depth that define Vega Sicilia.
