The Álvarez family's business project is based on two fundamental cornerstones: consistency of the quality of the product as a guarantee for the different vintages, and dedication to the client as a benchmark in its routine activity.

Both cornerstones have underpinned the development of the group and have enabled very solid growth both in terms of the production structure and of the distribution and positioning of the different wines. The group currently consists of 5 companies (Bodegas Vega Sicilia S.A, Bodegas y Viñedos Alión S.A., Bodegas y Viñedos Pintia S.A., Benjamin de Rothschild & Vega Sicilia S.A. and Tokaj-Oremus Kft.), the first four in Spain and the fifth in Hungary.

From the positioning perspective, the group enjoys a magnificent public image among its clients and in the rest of the market alike. This image is endorsed both by the international awards that it receives annually and for the numerous appearances in the media around the world. But particularly for the huge acceptance that its wines have in the different markets in which they are present.

The 2022 vintage of Alión holds distinct significance as a triumph of gentle winemaking during one of the hottest and driest growing seasons in recent memory across Ribera del Duero. Sourced from a mosaic of high-altitude parcels—predominantly in Moradillo, alongside plots in Pesquera, Padilla, and the historic Vega Sicilia estate itself—the 100% Tinto Fino vines achieved early, generous ripeness. To tame the solar intensity of 2022, Vega Sicilia adapted its cellar protocol by employing a measured, non-interventionist extraction and reducing new oak usage in favor of larger wooden foudres and concrete vats. The result is an opulent, exuberant bottling that captures remarkable fruit density and modern expression while maintaining a vibrant mineral backbone and long-term aging potential.

In the glass, the 2022 Alión presents a deep ruby hue with a complex, inviting bouquet of dark plums, black cherries, cassis, and wild blackberries, complemented by floral violets, graphite, cocoa powder, and subtle baking spices. The palate is rich, juicy, and broad, where opulent dark fruit is framed by velvety, finely polished tannins and a refreshing core of acidity that extends into a long, persistent finish accented by dried herbs and sweet oak. To complement its rich fruit profile and firm structure, pair this wine with charcoal-grilled prime ribeye, herb-crusted rack of lamb, slow-braised beef short ribs, roasted venison, or aged cured cheeses such as Manchego and Gouda.
