Good to know: Chateau Lagrange started out life as Maison Noble de Lagrange Monteil as far back as the middle ages. Historical documents mention the vineyard as far back to 1631. During the 18th century, the picturesque estate was the property of the Baron de Brane.
The Baron was better known for counting among his holdings, Brane Cantenac and Brane Mouton, which today is known as Chateau Mouton Rothschild. When the Baron was in charge of the estate, the wines were sold as Baron St. Julien.
Like most Bordeaux vineyards, the property passed through numerous hands and experienced a downsize worth of more than half in 100 years but before Suntory group bought the winery in 1983, the state sold even more part of their vineyards to Ducru Beaucaillou and Chateau Gloria.
Chateau Lagrange made numerous improvements after the arrival of Suntory and helped to turn the state into one of the best in Saint Julien AOC.
The total rainfall in 2018 exceeded the average of the past two decades, primarily due to heavy rainfall during the first half of the year. Additionally, the average temperatures recorded at our weather station were among the highest ever. However, the summer of 2018 proved to be one of the driest at Lagrange since 1996, with hot and dry conditions extending through the harvest season in September and October.
The tasting note describes a wine with a pure and precise nose of blackcurrant and black cherry aromas. Despite the solar vintage, the wine maintains a refreshing quality and a tangy yet elegant palate. Lively and with a beautiful finish, this wine offers a great length that is sure to impress.
