Decanting Time: Decant for at least 1 hour. Decant only to remove sediments (wines at this age and high quality will tend to have sediments form in the bottle. This is completely normal and a sign of the wine's age and quality. Another way to avoid sediments going in the glass is to rest the bottle vertically for at least 1 hour so that the sediments settle at the bottom and pour gently or pour using a fine strainer.). Serve at 16 - 18°C
Our suggestion for decanting time is based on bottles we tried at Txanton in 2024. We guarantee that Txanton stocks are imported and maintained in proper storage within the correct temperature and humidity suitable for wine.
Good to know: Chateau Lagrange started out life as Maison Noble de Lagrange Monteil as far back as the middle ages. Historical documents mention the vineyard as far back to 1631. During the 18th century, the picturesque estate was the property of the Baron de Brane.
The Baron was better known for counting among his holdings, Brane Cantenac and Brane Mouton, which today is known as Chateau Mouton Rothschild. When the Baron was in charge of the estate, the wines were sold as Baron St. Julien.
Like most Bordeaux vineyards, the property passed through numerous hands and experienced a downsize worth of more than half in 100 years but before Suntory group bought the winery in 1983, the state sold even more part of their vineyards to Ducru Beaucaillou and Chateau Gloria.
Chateau Lagrange made numerous improvements after the arrival of Suntory and helped to turn the state into one of the best in Saint Julien AOC.
The total rainfall in 2018 surpassed the average of the last two decades, largely due to heavy rainfall in the first half of the year. Additionally, the average temperatures were among the highest ever recorded at our weather station. Despite this, the summer proved to be one of the driest on record at Lagrange since 1996. The hot and dry weather persisted through September and October, ideal for the harvest season.
The Le Haut-Medoc de Lagrange 2018 tasting notes reveal a wine with a pure and precise nose featuring blackcurrant and black cherry aromas. This solar vintage exudes a refreshing quality, with a tangy and elegant palate. The wine is vibrant and offers a lovely length on the finish. Be sure not to miss out on experiencing this exceptional wine.
