Good To Know: El Puntido comes from old
Spanish which translates to "staircase landing." The term
picturesquely describes the topography of the land between the Sierra de
Cantabria and the Ebro River. Vinedo de Paganos' El Puntido wines have been in
production since 2001 and have increased in quality after each and every
vintage primarily due to their focus on lowering yields over the last 12 years.
The winery was founded with the goal of highlighting "El Puntido" and
"La Nieta," two phenomenal single vineyards, located in the ancient
medieval town of Páganos and near the village of Laguardia in Basque Country's
Rioja Alavesa sub region.
Vinedo
de Paganos' El Puntido Gran Reserva 2007 is a wine that was crafted in the
traditional method with 100% de-stemmed wines. Aged for 28 months in new French
oak barrels. It has aromas of espresso, dark chocolate, plum and pomegranate
backed by round tannins and balsamic acidity. This helps define this complex
with subtle nuances. A balanced and spicy finish.
Vinedo
de Paganos was founded by the Eguren family and is just one of the amazing
wineries under the main company, Sierra Cantabria, which was originally founded
in 1870 (previously known as Bodegas Eguren.) Apart from Vinedo de Paganos, the
company also owns renowned wineries such as Senorio de San Vicente, Teso La
Monja and Dominio de Eguren. The company today is led by a 4th generation
Eguren and one of Spain's most celebrated winemakers, Marcus Eguren.
