Decanting Time: No need. Just open bottle for 15 minutes then serve at 10°C. This wine is ready to drink now holding a potential ageing window of approximately 40 years if kept in ideal conditions: constant temperature of 12-14 ºC and 60% relative humidity.
Our suggestion for decanting time is based on bottles we tried at Txanton over 2023. We guarantee Txanton stocks are imported and maintained on a proper storage with right temperature and humidity.
Good to know: The Tokaj legend has grown and grown in its four-hundred years of history, but it was not until 1630, when the greatness of Oremus vineyard was first spoken of. Today, it is the one with greatest universal acclaim.
The Tokaj region lies within the range of mountains in Northeast Hungary. Oremus winery is located at the geographical heart of this region.
The type of Aszú wine is distinguished by the number of puttonyos, or baskets, used in the production process. Each puttonyos can hold up to 25 kilograms of top-quality aszú grapes, which have been carefully affected by noble rot (botrytis). To create the desired Aszú wine, 3 to 6 puttonyos are added to 136 liters of furmint must, which is then aged in Hungarian oak casks. The sweetness level of the wine is directly proportional to the number of puttonyos utilized. The fermentation process takes place under strict control, over 60 days, within new Hungarian oak casks. Once fermentation is complete, the wine is aged for a minimum of 2 years in new oak casks and an additional year in the bottle. This particular batch was bottled in July 2002, yielding a wine of exceptional quality and complexity.
