Good To Know: As one of the most iconic and globally renowned Spanish wine producers, the Eguren family, owns several notable wineries throughout all of Spain. Their most popular and arguably most iconic winery, Sierra Cantabria is located in the heart of the town of San Vicente de la Sonsierra in Rioja Alta, and makes a range of classic Rioja wines from 19 vineyard sites spread out across a total of 65 hectares (160 acres).
Sierra Cantabria's Amancio 2007 vintage is another age worthy release from the winery that is synonymous with prestige and excellence in Spanish winemaking. The nose is both ripe and savory with overtones of plum, black cherries and cassis aloft undertones of cured meat and black pepper. The palate is beautifully rotund yet elegant, carrying notes of figs, cigar box and dark chocolate. The wine's long and tremendously powerful finish is further elevated by pleasurably intense, gripping tannins that are followed by after notes of smoked wood and baking spice.
Officially founded in 1870 by the prominent winemaking Eguren family, Sierra Cantabria is now led by fourth generation and leading Spanish winemaker, Marcus Eguren. Apart from the historical Sierra Cantabria winery, the Eguren family also owns equally prestigious wineries such as: Señorio de San Vicente in Rioja Alavesa, Dominio de Eguren in the Paganos province, and the more recent, Teso La Monja estate in Toro.
