Good To Know: Pintia was another secret project of the world renowned winery, Vega Sicilia. Their goal was to set the bar for wines produced in the region, focusing primarily on eliminating the stigma of Tinta de Toro (a think skinned clone of Tempranillo) being an "all power, no finesse" wine, and elevating its aromatic purity and elegance, creating a unique style that would set the benchmark for contemporary wines in the region.
Vega Sicilia purchased the plots for Pintia secretly around 1997 and began experimenting and improving both their vineyard practices and their vinification methods. They released their first vintage of Pintia in 2001 and received critical acclaim and praise from critics and collectors alike. Today, Pintia has become known for having the style and class of a Vega Sicilia Group wine, but with the extra spicy, forceful presence that can only be found from the unique terroir of Toro.
