Decanting Time: decant for one hour and serve at 18°C. This wine still has a great structure and concentration but seductive aromas and characters will appear stronger.
Our suggestion for decanting time is based on bottles we tried at Txanton over 2025. We guarantee Txanton stocks are imported and maintained on a proper storage with right temperature and humidity.
Good to know: Marqués de Vargas Gran Reserva is a limited-edition that is produced only in the absolute great vintages. This wine was matured for 24 months in American and French oak barrels, followed by at least 36 months in the bottle. Deep dark ruby color. This wine shows lots of flavors which derived from dark fruits and sweet spices, such as blackberry, licorice and nutmeg. It has a great structure and concentration on the palates. Ripe black fruit aromas mingle with some fine spicy nuances from the long ageing period. A balsamic subtle note adds freshness and a nice balance to it. Full body and good tannin structure but very polished, with a long aftertaste. Elegant, powerful and with great ageing potential for 5-10 years.
Marqués de Vargas means referring to Rioja, since the Marquisate of Vargas is held by a family that has close ties to this acclaimed Spanish wine-making region. This winery was founded following the “French Château” concept, with the philosophy of producing Reserva and Gran Reserva, exclusively made of grapes from the family´s vineyards at Rioja Alta. The current property's subdivision is the result of the in-depth parametric cartography lead by a team which is composed by “terroir”-focused wine experts: Ana Barrón (winemaker), Xavier Ausás (wine consultant and former wine maker from Vega Sicilia) and David Pernet (cartographer and founder of SOVIVINS in Bordeaux).
Wines are crafted in the property following sustainable agricultural practices and aged in high quality oak barrels from selected coopers. The Vargas family only produces fine red wines with great ageing potential. Recently, some of our wines have received the prominent distinction of “Viñedo Singular”, by the Rioja Control Board due to the extraordinary characteristics of their plots, their uniqueness and their distinctive production process, claiming full respect for the traditional techniques and “terroir”.
