Good To Know: Manfredi Martini is both the founder of Il Paradiso di Manfredi and the original founder of the Brunello Consorzio which was established in 1967. His winery, now run by his daughter and son in law, only produces around 750 cases of wine annually making them highly collectable and sought after by Brunello aficionados. Today, the family continues to produce Brunello di Montalcino the traditional way wherein grapes are handpicked and sorted, de-stemmed, and fermented in resin-lined cement tanks by indigenous yeasts.
The Il Paradiso di Manfredi Rosso DOC 2018 is amazingly ripe with gorgeous acidity and backbone. Notes crushed wild red cherries and red currant line the nose coupled by balsamic nuances and hints of oregano. The palate is medium bodied with good oak nuances of sweet tobacco and subtle hints of baking spice. Tannins are sinewy on the finish followed by afternotes of freshly crushed strawberries and espresso.
Purchased and established around the 1950's by Manfredi and his wife, Fortunata, Il Paradiso di Manfredi, has been around even before the establishment of Brunello di Montalcino as a DOCG. Today, the estate encompasses a total of 2.5 hectares of vineyards planted solely with Sangiovese whose vines average around 28 years of age.
