Good to Know: Azienda Agricola Elvio Cogno started to produce wines to serve tables and hungry patrons at the Ristorante dell’Angelo in La Morra back in 1936. Their family has long cultivated grapevines for generations. The wine produced by the Cogno family performed more than they expected. It not only served their restaurant patrons but also distinguished itself as an excellent wine.
This success brought Elvio Cogno to leave the restaurant business to produce wines in full time. A business partner supported this decision as his wine showed great reputation. A collaboration between Cogno and the Marcarini winery began as this winery have been managing splendid vineyards in Brunate in the town of La Morra. There, they cultivated Nebbiolo for Barolo.
Elvio’s work pushed towards a goal of producing wine of higher quality and developing the potential of wines in Langhe.
Now the hills of the vineyard in Novello have become world-renowned for their history and excellence recognized by UNESCO as World Heritage.
Following Elvio Cogno, Nadia Cogno and Valter Fissore now carries the legacy between four generations of winemakers and vine growers.

Tannins are fine and perfectly integrated.
Best served with starters, pasta, soups, salami, jamon and cream cheeses.
Elvio Cogno Dolcetto d’Alba “Vigna del Mandorlo” 2023 is a lively and characterful red wine crafted from a small, high-elevation vineyard in the Ravera cru of Novello. The vines, some up to 50 years old, are cultivated sustainably on calcareous-clay soils and vinified entirely in stainless steel to preserve freshness and varietal purity. After fermentation, the wine ages on its lees for two months and is bottled following a short maturation period. In the glass, it shows a deep ruby hue with violet reflections, offering vibrant aromas of blackberry, cherry, red currant, and a subtle almond note. On the palate, it’s juicy and fruit-forward with balanced acidity and gentle tannins, making it a versatile, food-friendly wine that pairs well with pasta, grilled meats, or aged cheeses. This vintage highlights the expressive and approachable side of Dolcetto while reflecting the finesse of its terroir.
