Good to know: Established in 1863 by Frédéric MUGNIER, a renowned liqueur-maker in Dijon, the estate boasted nearly twenty hectares spanning Chambolle-Musigny and Nuits-Saint-Georges at the turn of the 20th century. Managed in conjunction with the liqueur factory by Frédéric's descendants until 1949, the estate's wines were originally marketed as "Château Chambolle-Musigny" prior to the establishment of appellations d'origine in 1878, following the Bordeaux tradition.
In 1950, Jacques-Frédéric MUGNIER, the great-grandson of Frédéric born in 1923, made the decision to sell the struggling liquor business, impacted by post-war and economic challenges, and leased the vineyard - now diminished due to inheritance issues - to a prominent wine company in Nuits-Saint-Georges. From 1978 until his passing, Jacques-Frédéric MUGNIER personally oversaw the management of the Chambolle vines, with his son, Frédéric MUGNIER, assuming full control of the family estate in 1985.
Today, the dedicated team at Domaine Mugnier, led by Jocelyne and Frédéric Mugnier, including Adeline, François, Fabien, Patrick, Guillaume, Alex, Maxime, Théo, and Anaïs, meticulously oversee every aspect of production to preserve the essence of Nature from vineyard to glass.
Our philosophy focuses on showcasing the truest expression of Nature in our wines, without the use of artificial technology in both viticulture and winemaking.
The wines of Le Clos de la Maréchale exhibit the honesty, integrity, and robustness characteristic of those from Nuits-saint-Georges. However, they distinguish themselves by their smoothness and lack of harsh tannins commonly found in young central Nuits wines. While these wines benefit from aging for a few years to fully express themselves, they eventually reveal a delightful floral profile with hints of raspberry, iris, and white lilac.
