Good to Know: Cordero San Giorgio is a dynamic winery in Oltrepò Pavese, Lombardy, founded in 2019 by siblings Francesco, Lorenzo, and Caterina Cordero, descendants of the famed Vietti winemaking family. They took over the historic Tenuta San Giorgio estate, which spans about 22 hectares of organically farmed vineyards averaging 40 years old. The winery focuses on native and international varieties like Pinot Nero, Pinot Grigio, Chardonnay, Croatina, and Barbera, crafting wines with minimal intervention to highlight terroir. Notable labels include Tiāmat Pinot Nero, Katari Pinot Grigio, Rivone Chardonnay, Fredo Barbera Riserva, and Exergia Moscato d’Asti. Cordero San Giorgio brings a fresh, elegant, and expressive style to Oltrepò wines while honoring their Piedmontese roots.

Cordero San Giorgio Katari Pinot Grigio 2024 from Oltrepò Pavese DOC is a fresh, expressive white wine that highlights the estate’s focus on minimal intervention and terroir-driven purity. The hand-harvested grapes are gently pressed and fermented at low temperatures in stainless steel, with no malolactic fermentation, preserving the wine’s natural vibrancy. It is then aged on fine lees for six months, followed by a brief period in bottle before release. The result is a straw-yellow wine with greenish reflections, offering bright aromas of pear, green apple, and jasmine. On the palate, it is crisp and medium-bodied with lively acidity and a mineral-driven finish. This elegant and food-friendly Pinot Grigio is ideal as an aperitif or paired with seafood, white meats, and delicate vegetable dishes.
