Good To Know: Clos D'Agon's history is inseparable from a historic "Masia," named Mas Sabater. A Masia was a typical Catalan estate surrounded by farmlands or vineyards. In 1792, the Masia which still stands today, was renamed to Mas Gil. There exists written evidence that vineyards containing several hybrid grape varietals once existed on the lands of Mas Gil as early as the 15th century.
Amic is Clos d'Agon's refreshing, youthful and vibrant line of wines that focus on fruit driven flavor as well as the inclusion of Spanish grape varietals in blending. The Amic Red or simply "Amic," remains true to the complex and intense style of Clos d'Agon. Though meant for youthful, early drinking, the wine's vigor and complexity as well as alcohol level shows a potential for further cellaring or aging. The nose is filled with notes of red fruit particularly wild raspberries and nuances of black cherries and plum. Balsamic hints and pine can also be detected on the wine's aroma. The palate is a brilliant display of fruit and earthy notes that is further emphasized by the wine's tension and vigor. Full bodied until the last drop, palate coating tannins round out the wine's brilliant finish.
Towards the end of 1980's The property was acquired by French-Belgian national, Philippe Damboise. Damboise made several changes from the pruning method to the grape varietals planted in the vineyards. The shift to Bordeaux varietals for the reds and Rhone Valley varietals for the whites established the core of the wines that Clos d'Agon produces today.
