Good to know: The 2015 La Dame de Montrose vintage began amidst a colder winter compared to past years, setting the stage for a unique growing season. The mild and sunny start to the season encouraged early bud burst, followed by a quick and consistent flowering period in early June, thanks to ideal weather conditions. The months of June and July were characterized by dry weather, leading to water stress and a noticeable slowdown in vine development. Véraison occurred early and uniformly between July 21st and August 10th, with September showers highlighting the exceptional drainage and beneficial drying wind on the plateau where the Cabernet Sauvignon vines thrive.
The harvest commenced on 15 September with an expanded team of pickers and maintained a steady pace until 8 October when picking concluded. The grapes exhibited exceptional quality, prompting us to reinforce our meticulous plot selection process, which often required multiple passes through a plot to ensure optimal ripeness. In the winery, our reception line facilitated precise work: 3 sorting tables for bunches preceded double sorting of the berries, first by optical means and then by hand. Vinification, highlighting the unique characteristics of our terroir, was customized in tanks of varying sizes to accommodate each of the 55 batches in our blending repertoire. Additionally, 7 batches resulting from meticulous pressing techniques were incorporated. During the blending process, the abundance of diverse batches enabled us to be exceptionally discerning in selecting the grand vin, marking the strictest selection in 15 years. Initial tastings have positioned this vintage as one of the standout years for Château Montrose.
