Good to know: Château Certan de May has a rich history dating back to the early days of Pomerol. Originally established by the de May family, who arrived in France from Scotland during the Middle Ages, the estate was granted to them by royal decree in the 16th century as a token of gratitude for their services to the French crown. Wine production began at the estate in the 18th century and remained under the management of descendants of the de May de Certans until 1925, when ownership transferred to the Barreau family.
Located on the prestigious central plateau of Pomerol, Château Certan de May is surrounded by renowned estates such as Vieux Château Certan and La Fleur-Pétrus, solidifying its reputation as one of the top properties in the appellation.
The wines of Château Certan de May derive their complexity from the unique soil composition of the vineyard, which blends clay and gravel to create a harmonious combination of power and finesse, structure and freshness. This balance showcases the distinctiveness and complementary nature of these terroirs.
