Good to Know: Bodegas Tradicion is the only winery in the DO Jerez whose production focuses exclusively on the oldest wines and brandies which fall into the higher categories guaranteed by the Regulating Authority of wine and brandy.
In this case, we have a Brandy from over 25 years old, with a complex flavour that is very likeable. This is the outcome of a distillation called “holandas” and spirits. It was aged using “solera and criaderas”, which makes it definitely unique. Once tasted, an intense flavour is noticed, with reminiscences of mild sweetness. On the nose very old noble woods perfume, and at sight, it is mahogany in colour with bright tints. The spice has cloves and nutmegs with notes of roasted aged wood and pipe tobacco. All these features added together provide a very special character to this brandy.. Today, these brandies are continued to be aged in the American oak barrels as the standards of Bodegas Tradicion’s VORS Tradicion Oloroso Wine.
It is best paired with dark chocolate, medium to strong Havana cigars and nuts. Certain types of cheese like Idiazábal is highly recommended for bolder taste.
The original company was founded in 1650, which hold the oldest of the sherry brands known to date. Tradicion is the newest wine project within the family after 11 generations. Focusing on very old sherry, not-chill filtered, not blended, not stabilized, not clarified, unsweetened, and with no addition of sulfates was a very unique and adventurous strategy indeed. Tradicion search for the purest style of classic sherry and aim to produce outstanding wines certified with more than thirty years of age or V.O.R.S. (Very Old Rare Sherry) or more than twenty years of age or V.O.S (Very Old Sherry).
Literature on the bottle: Being loyal to our philosophy, Brandy Tradicion is bottled by hand, in a limited number of bottles (3.000 bottles per year), trying to keep alive the traditional methods which have been used in Jerez for many centuries.
We have only used American oak casks to age this brandy. Those casks previously contained Oloroso VORS with more than 30 year of age from Bodegas Tradicion.
