Good to Know: The 1864 Castillo de Olite serves as a symbol of the opulence and royal splendor witnessed during the reign of Charles III. Its very name pays homage to one of the most opulent Royal Palaces of the medieval era in Europe. Prior to the conquest of Navarra by the kingdom of Castilla in 1510, this fortress was the residence of kings, where extravagant jousts and tournaments took place, accompanied by copious amounts of wine, naturally.
Since 1864, they have passionately crafted wine, honing their skills and expertise over the years. Bodegas Manzanos have now chosen to introduce a wine that lives up to the lofty expectations set by the palace, representing the regality that dwells within each and every one of us.
This extraordinary wine is crafted from the exquisite Grenache grape variety, enhanced by the addition of Tempranillo and Cabernet Sauvignon. The dominant Grenache flavors are meticulously preserved through a 24-month aging process in 200-liter barrels made of French and American oak. These barrels, although not new, have been chosen to maintain the wine's elegance and delicacy, allowing its enticing aroma to shine.
The Bodegas Manzanos '1864 Castillo de Olite' Reserva features a captivating cherry red color with medium intensity garnet hues. The aromas exude elegance, showcasing the unique characteristics of the carefully selected grape, which have gracefully evolved through both barrel and bottle aging. On the palate, the wine embodies the desired roundness attributed to the Grenache variety, complemented by the smoothness of Tempranillo and a touch of added structure from the Cabernet Sauvignon.
To fully savor this exceptional wine, we recommend pairing it with red meat and semi-cured cheeses.
