Good to Know: The 1864 Castillo de Olite serves as a symbol of the opulence and royal splendor witnessed during the reign of Charles III. Its very name pays homage to one of the most opulent Royal Palaces of the medieval era in Europe. Prior to the conquest of Navarra by the kingdom of Castilla in 1510, this fortress was the residence of kings, where extravagant jousts and tournaments took place, accompanied by copious amounts of wine, naturally.
Since 1864, they have passionately crafted wine, honing their skills and expertise over the years. Bodegas Manzanos have now chosen to introduce a wine that lives up to the lofty expectations set by the palace, representing the regality that dwells within each and every one of us.
Bodegas Manzanos aimed to capture the essence and character of the Navarra appellation through their wine, highlighting the outstanding qualities of Grenache and complementing it with a touch of Tempranillo. To preserve the elegance and delicacy of the Grenache, the wine was aged in 500-liter French and American oak barrels that were not new.
After an 18-month aging process, with 60% in French oak barrels and 40% in American oak barrels, some of which were new and others up to three years old, Bodegas Manzanos' 'Castillo de Olite' Crianza emerges with a visually striking cherry red color. Its aroma boasts fresh black fruit notes, along with hints of spice, balsamic, underbrush, and cedar. This full-bodied wine exhibits a well-structured and elegant palate, followed by a lingering mineral finish.
For the perfect pairing, this wine beautifully complements red meat dishes and semi-cured cheeses.
